HEALTH IN AUGUST
MORE SCARLET FEVER FIGURES FOR PROVINCE Pneumonia, usually prevalent in August, showed but a slight increase last month in the Auckland Province over the figures for July, according to tho monthly report of the Health Department. Thirty-eight cases were reported. as against 30 in the previous month. There was a marked increase, however, in the number of scarlet fever patients, 113 receiving treatment as against 89 in July. The total number of cases for the month was 301, the highest since May last. The figures for diphtheria and tuberculosis show little change. Cases reported in the various districts were as follow, figures for Julybeing given in parentheses: Central Auckland, 128 cases (150); South Auckland, 88 (70); North Auckland, 51 (35) : Thames-Tauranga, 34 (22). Following are details of cases throughout the province:—Scarlet fever. 113 (89); diphtheria, 53 (55); tuberculosis, 42 (4); cerebro-spinal meningitis, 1 (0); pneumonic influenza, 7 (6); pneumonia. 38 (30): erisipelas, 10 (19); pureperal fever, 16 (12); tetanus, 1 (0); opthmalia neonartorum, 1 (0) ; trachoma, 4 (0); dysentery, 5 (3); poliomyelitis. 2 (0); enteric fever, S (0); eclampsia, 2 (1).
