TWO MORE GAMES Yesterday afternoon and evening the Auckland provincial amateur billiards championship for Billiards, Ltd., Shield was continued at Messrs. Billiards, i Ltd.’s showrooms. The game between W. K. Ilackett j and D. Jones attracted a fair attend- j ance. The latter made a nice hazard | break of 47 at his third visit to the ; table, and was first to reach the cen- ! tury mark. ITaekett was unusually ! slow in getting started, and he missed quite a number of chances of making breaks. Jones continued to play consistently. and passed the 200 mark when his opponent’s score was 146. Hackett, however, added a 30 break to his total, and was within striking distance. At the halfway mark the scores were 257 to 242 in Jones’s favour. The play had quietened down owing to safety tactics. Hackett. however, brightened up the game, and gained a j lead for the first time by making a i good break of 63, mostly by hazard play. ! He maintained his lead to the end. ; winning an interesting game by 116 ; points. The final scores were:—HacI kett, 500: Jones, 384. The best breaks were:—Hackett. 63, 42. 30, 28, 26, and 20 unfinished: Jones, 47, 29, and 20. In the evening game between M. D. White and .F. Lovelock, the latter was first to get going, and made a useful run of 22, but White gained the lead by making a splendid break of 63, mostly by top-of-table play. Lovelock evoked applause by scoring with all-round cannons. White, who was displaying glimpses of his true form, played consistently, and soon established a good lead. At the halfway mark he was SO-odd points to the good, but his opponent was also scoring well without making big breaks. A little later, however, he ! compiled a nice effort of 31, made up i mostly of cannons. White, however, ' increased his lead again by making j runs of 32, 21, and 21. He maintained i his advantage, and ran out a winner by 101 points. The final scores were: ! —White. 500; Lovelock, 399. The best breaks were:—White, G 3. 21, 26. 20. 32. ; 21, 21, 21; Lovelock. 22, 31, 38, 26.
