TRAIN DERAILED
ACCIDENT IN OTAGO Press Association DUNEDIN, Tuesday. ! Between 3.30 and 4 o'clock this afternoon a goods train from Clinton met with an accident at Toiro, six miles south of Balclutha. resulting in the derailment of about 10 trucks The mishap caused a delay of about an hour to the midnight express from Invercargill to Christchurch, and also to the Dunedin-Inverc.argill express. Passengers had to tranship at the scene of the accident. The line was cleared at 1.20 this morning by a relief gang from Invercargill. The train was a long one of 40 wagons, with a passenger carriage at the rear. Fortunately, the guard noticed a meat wagon swayiDg dangerously just before the smash, and applied the Westinghouse brakes from his van. The passengers felt no shock. A similar accident close to the same spot occurred at the same hour in November last year, and the same driver and guard were in that smash.
