PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD
The water engineer reported to the Papatoetoe Town Board last evening that the pump and motor recently installed at the well and pump-house were in use. Preliminary trial runs wero taken, when it was found that the plant was running very satisfactorily. It had been found that the plant will deliver considerably more than the specified quantity of water of 80 gallons a minute. The official 10 hours test at full load will be run next tv eek. From now on the contractor will have water available for testinrthe pipes, and the backfilling of open trenches should be completed shortly, i r f ply to letter from the Auckland Automobile Association, recommending that white lines be used in place of the silent policemen at present in use, it was decided, on the recommendation of the traffic inspector, Mr. D. Fletcher, to adhere to the present system. It was agreed to instal prism domes at the junction of East Tamaki and Great South Hoad, and Kolmar Hoad and Great South Road. A deputation from the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, led by Mr. W. J. Hindman, president of the club, waited on the board and asked for permission to hold sports carnivals, and charge admission charges at the Papatoetoe Recreation Ground on November 2, January IS and April 7.. It was tentatively agreed to allow the club the use of the ground on the dates mentioned. The Chamber of Commerce asked if any official ceremony is being arranged for the turning on of the water supply. The clerk was authorised to advise the chamber that it was intended to hold a ceremony and the Chamber of Commerce would be invited to send a representative. An expression of sympathy was passed with Mr. G. Hosking, a member of the board, in his illness.Messrs. T. R. Smytheman, W. J. Nicholson and E. S. Sorensen were appointed a water works committee with instructions to submit draft by-laws to the next meeting of the board. The clerk reported that the general account was in credit £1.230 2s 7d. • - Vlr - Nicholson, chairman of the finance committee, said that in consequence of the 5 per cent, rebate allowed lor prompt payment, over £4,000 had been received in rates in a fortnight On Saturday, the last day allowed for the rebate, £I,OOO was received.
