VESSELS DELAYED
CARGO INRUSH CAUSES TRUCK SHORTAGE DEPARTMENT NOT BLAMED The dispatch of several cargo vessels at present discharging at the Auckland waterfront lias been delayed on account of shortage of trucks. Ships with bulk cargoes have arrived in port in a rush during the last few clays and consequently exceptionally heavy demands have been made on the Railway Department for trucks. Two vessels, the Arlington Court and the Scotseraig, arrived from Galveston. Texas=, with sulphur. From Nauru Island came the Tregonell with phosphates, and there have been no fewer than seven colliers unloading. Shipping authorities agree that t. would not be a fair thing to expect the : Railway Department to cope with such an inundation of bulk cargoewithout delay somewhere —in fact that it would be impossible to do so In the meantime several vessels will be held up to some extent in their uu- | loading operations, and their departures for other ports are rather indc- : finite, depending in sonic measure m | the return of trucks already sent from Auckland with bulk cargo for other ‘j destination*
