METEOROLOGISTS MEET

IMPORTANCE OF SCIENCE EMPHASISED VALUE TO AVIATION British Official Wireless RUGBY, Friday. A conference of meteorologists from all parts of the British Empire began in London today. The Undersecretary for Air, Mr. F. Montague, in his opening speech, remarked upon the official importance of meteorology m regard to aviation. He said the need foi adequate meteorological organisations to meet the requirements of air tiansport services had become a matter of vital importance on the Empiie air-routes, which were in the process of formation. , important part was also played by meteorology in other directions such as in the service of shipping, the assistance of agriculture and the naval and military services. It was manifestly clear that an exchange of information, a co-ordination of plans, and a perfection of the organisation of the meteorological services in these interests were of fundamental importance to the British Empire. The possible services of the British Empire to the world in this regard were also surely of vast importance. The true ideal of the Empire was service. It was in its service to civilisation and peaceful development for the benefit of the whole human race that our great Empire was to be judged.
