ST. JAMES
FRANK O’BRIAN’S “REVELLERS” The tenth programme of Frank O’Brian’s “Revellers” proved very entertaining to the large audience at the St. James Theatre again on Saturday evening. Frank O’Brian and his company, which seems to improve from week to week, well understand the problems of popular taste, and their programmes, although they vary considerably, never fail to give amusement. Outstanding on the tenth selection of song, topicality dancing and wit, is a sketch which occupies the whole of the second half of the programme. This is “All Smiles on the Western Front,” a particularly bright revue of army life, seen through the pleasant haze of 15 years, On Saturday Frank O’Brian did some excellent character work. There were quite a number of different acts, and the whole show was an enjoyable novelty that further enhanced the reputation of the Revellers. The programme includes two sketches, “The Marriage Exchange” and “The Toy Shop.” All through the various items there are snappy ballet dances. Tiny Douglas’s Varsity Boys’ Jazz Band introduces many new and popular numbers as usual. Songs by Marie Ward, Gordon Norville and Eric Masters, and other items by the remainder of the company, are thoroughly enjoyable.
