LYCEUM CLUB GUEST ADDRESS BY MADAME FRASER In an interesting address at the Lyceum Club last evening Madame Winnie Fraser described obera as sung in Hungary, Italy, Germany and other parts of the Continent. Mrs. W. H. Parkes extended a warm welcome to Madame Fraser, 'who was accompanied by Mrs. Loughnan, of Christchurch. Commencing at London, where she had studied under Sir Henry Wood and where she also met several famous musicians, including Rachmaninoff, the Russian composer, Madame Fraser took her audience to' Paris and to La Scala, in Milan. Describing the famous opera house, Madame Fraser spoke of its architecture and of the gradual fading of the lights and the slow raising of the curtains at the beginning of each act. Madam© Fraser spoke briefly but most interestingly of the methods of teaching in Vienna. Vienna, she said, was the home of opera and each street was named after a famous musician. The love of music seemed to be born in the children there and in the opera houses seemed to linger the presence of the great masters. Madame Fraser sang two delightful songs, “Vesper Hymn,” by Flora Woodman, and “Cuckoo,” by Martin Shaw. Mrs. Osborne was the accompanist.
