UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN.—This photograph teas taken by the light of the Polar Sun. The black spots are ice. A day in this region lasts about six months, so that the whaling crews may be said to have done a good day’s work when they return to their homes. The cloud effects near the Great Ice Barrier are particularly beautiful, being altogether different from anything experienced in warmer latitudes.
