NO MAIN HIGHWAY
j DEPUTATION WAITS UPON MINISTER ’ \ <ILL AFFAIRS No definite declaration was made by j Uie Minister of Public Works, the j Hon. E. A. Ransom, concerning the Green Lane Road as a main highway, to a deputation from the One Tree Hill Road Board which waited upon him recently. This report was made by members j of the deputation at the meeting of ( the Road Board last evening at which i Air. F. S. ITardwicke presided. The j Alinisfer, however, had decided to j keep the subject under' notice. The members of the deputation were • accorded thanks for their endeavours, j Tlid building inspector's report j showed that five permits totalling ! £1,765 had been issued in the past fortnight. The report indicated that 164 permits had been issued since last January, amounting to £63,770. The number of drivers’ licences issued to date was 51, snowing a net revenue of £ 71. It was reported that traffic inspector's' in various districts, were experiencing considerable trouble with cyclists and that a new by-law should be adopted to lfbence push-bicycles. The board decided to give £1 Is to the Labour Day Celebration Committee, and also to grant permission to the Society for Protection of Women and Children to hold a street collection on Friday.
