Golden Wedding was restricted to covering a round in easy fashion in Lover (R- McTavish), Zircon (H. Wiggins), and Valsier (W. Ryan) were sent from the seven-furlong- post, going over the initial furlong in 14 2-5 two in 27, the first half-mile in 55 1-5, and the full distance in 1.38 3-5, by which time The Lover, on the outside, had half a length to spare. This Jellicoe Handicap candidate has been faring very well in his track essays and his prospects cannot be regarded lightly. Odin worked smoothly over a round in 2.3 3-5, while Dave had a slight advantage over Palmares when they completed five furlongs in 1.10 4-5, without being hurried. Taneriri had Thursby and Adjuster as companions for a seven-furlong bout, but they proved of little use to the first-named, who had several lengths the best of the gallop. Taneriri wound up his first three furlongs in 40 1-5. and the seven in 1.41. For half a mile Bombarder recorded 55 3-5, and a two-furlong sprint along the back was credited to the two-year-old Chansonette in 29. Catoma, on the # inside, was a bare half-length clear of Neil after completing six furlongs in 1.26 1-5, while Tetrarchate covered a furlong less in 1.12 2-5, moving easily. Good Idea and Brampton ran the last three of four furlongs in 44, Respirator springing home the final three of four furlongs in 40. From Taranaki Oration was not required to exert himself in a task over five furlongs, the last half-mile taking 57 3-5. After a schooling essay Master Clements was partnered with Chesterman over seven furlongs. The former hud the best of the dispatch and finished up attractively in 1.40 3-5. Spring Song revealed plenty of speed in beating Tambourine from the threefurlong peg in 41 4-5. Diamond Queen and Bizarro executed a sprint over half a mile in 55 2-5. They were together on reaching the post and were under a steady hold. Mana Whenua and Pal were sprinted down the straight, finishing on terms. New Boy was not asked to do his best in registering a useful task over six furlongs in 1.30 3-5, while Standfast, too, was striding out well within himself to take 1.29 for a similar distance. Lady Spalpeen, with Whakarite to assist her. covered six furlongs in 1.28 2-5, the first three in 44 3-5. Master Don accounted for TVTId Country and Mon Star in a five-fur-longs essay in 1.11, and Bennie’s halfmile was cut out in 57. A working gallop over a circuit in 2.11 was required from Hyde Park, who appeared to relish his task. Some Lady worked freely over six furlongs in 1.25, and Good Boy went a furlong less in 1.14. Mountain Guide and Tukunoa were associated in a short half-mile, the last three in 42 2-5, with the former pleasing most. Marita, Restaurant, Bonny Day, Kavvainga, Roman Pearl, Spring Abbey and Thunderstorm were worked at three-quarter pace over various distances on the grass. Arrivals from the South in Tlaeremai and Calithe were given useful tasks on the sand, a track on which Abbot’s Delight covered about a mile and a-quarter at a strong bat, the last half-mile in 55. Over the Obstacles Only two hurdlers were seen in action, Master Clements (A. McGregor) and Kawiti (W. Nightingale), who were partnered over the schooling hurdles. Master Clements gave a clean and safe display, but after negotiating the first Kawiti refused at the secondfi, and repeatedly failed, and was not persevered with. A trio of ’chasers was seen over the big fences, these being Master Arch (Leach), Sea Comet (J. Sharkey) and Tin Whistle (J. Burgess), the lastnamed being asked to jump only the fences on the flat. Sea Comet set a torrid pace at the commencement of the lesson and led Master Arch throughout, spoiling an otherwise faultless exhibition by striking the stone wall, the last obstacle. Master Arch made a mistake early in the essay, but his jumping on the hill and at the subsequent fences was proficiency itself. Tin. Whistle is showing improvement in his jumping, albeit he goes a bit high.
