BANK BOLDLY ROBBED

MANAGER HIT ON HEAD WITH FILE CITIZEN CAPTURES THIEF (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) ADELAIDE, Monday. A daring robbery was perpetrated today at the Norwood branch of the Bank of Adelaide. Two men, one of whom was armed with a revolver, and the other with a file wrapped in brown paper, entered the bank. The manager, Mr. L. Clutterbuck, was alone at the time. The robber with the file struck Mr. Clutterbuck on the head. The blow dazed him, but he already had pressed an alarm bell with his foot. The bell summoned a neighbouring shopkeeper, who telephoned to the city detectives’ office. The thieves stole a sum of £2OB, and were making their escape over a back fence when a plucky citizen, Mr. Crocker, who had heard of the raid, caught and held one man. The second robber ran away to a taxicab and escaped. Later in the day the driver of the cab was arrested on a charge of complicity in the crime. The man whom Mr. Crocker caught had £lB6 in his pockets. OLD MAN KNOCKED DOWN ASSAULT AND ROBBERY IN SYDNEY SYDNEY, Monday.
