FINE ARTS SCHOOL
CONFERENCE WITH CITY COUNCILLORS UNIVERSITY COUNCIL’S MOVE Questions relating to the proposed establishment of a faculty of fine arts for Auckland will be discussed by the ■University College Council and the Library Committee of the City Council at a meeting to be held on September 6. This was decided at yesterday's ■meeting of the Auckland University College Council, the president. Sir George Fowlds, being in the chair. The chairman admitted that there were many difficulties in the way of the proposal, but he considered that they could be overcome. Probably legislation would be required before the scheme could be put into operation. Mr. G. Baildon (Mayor of Auckland): Legislation will be required to enable us to join in. Mr. Baildon agreed with the chairman that the difficulties should not be insurmountable. The Education Committee reported that it could not recommend the council to apply for additional allowances for the sciences or for new buildings for the School of Engineering. The president said that the Auckland college was well ahead of other colleges In the way of allowances. It would not be possible to take any action this year.
