HAMILTON

Although King’s College first XV. saved the situation in the match with Hamilton High School here on Saturday by a converted try in the last minute, the home side was superior in most departments, and was unlucky not to win. Hamilton attacked early, and piled up eight points in the first quarter, working with the wind which was not negligible. Gillett put a penalty shot over for King’s near the end of the session. The second quarter was fairly even, King’s being a shade more aggressiye although its handling was very weak, many wild passes being in evidence. The third quarter was undoubtedly a triumph for the home side, which dominated the position with frequent loose and passing rushes. King’s attacked hotly toward the end of the last quarter, a series of line-outs near the goal ending when Caughey bustled over to touch down, Gillett converting decisively. Westwater was the best of the home backs. Howe. Hubbard and Anderson played very well in the forwards. Caughey, the skipper, was the strong man among the visitors, while Gillett showed sound form. CLARKE CUP MATCHES The senior matches for the Clarke Cup knock-out competition were continued on Saturday, the two leading teaqis. Old Boys A and Frankton drawing 10 all in a well-contested match. Play was very patchy, no player being outstanding. Marist lost to City 10-6 in a match in which there was little brisk handling in open play. A feature was a potted goal notched by Buckingham for City. Going and Corbett were in good form and ran through the Marist pack frequently.- Delaney, Fitzgerald and Bowler were the pick of the Marist pack. Technical Old Boys lowered the colours of Old Boys B, the final scores being 11-8. There was little interest in the senior games owing to the absence of good players with the Waikato representatives and to the college match. JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES The Hamilton junior representatives defeated Taupiri at Taupiri by 19 points to 9. This match was the first round of the Clarke Cup for the Waikato junior championship.
