KIA ORA’S RETURN

CORRODED PLATE CAUSES LEAK TEMPORARY REPAIRS Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The reason for the Kia Ora’s return was the discovery of a leak due to the corrosion of one of the shell plates on the port side near the stokehold. The ship not being deeply loaded, the plate was above the waterline and the influx of water was easily kept down by the pumps. Temporary repairs will be effected by rivetting an "overall patch” over the defective plate and the vessel is expected to get away tomorrow. The cargo is in no way affected.
