Fire Maniac Foiled in Another Attempt
OUTBREAK QUELLED PRIME MINISTER’S SON’S HOME Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. There were suspicious circumstances about a fire last night which was discovered in a wood shed at the rear of the home of Mr. Gladstone Ward, at 61 Bristol Street, St. Albans. Mr. Ward is a son of the Prime Minister. The brigade extinguished the flames after slight damage had been caused. An intruder was heard in the yard half an hour earlier, but Mr. Ward went out and could see no one. The owner says the circumstances point to incendiarism. SALVAGER INJURED PETROL CASE EXPLODES Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. While men were salvaging cases of petrol at D. H. Brown’s store in Carlyle Street one case exploded and injured William Simmonds, aged 29, married; He was taken to hospital suffering from burnt arms and legs.
Firemen are still playing four leads of hose on the blazing debris.
