TE AROHA TOPICS

PREPARING FOR PAKURANGA (Special to THE SUN) TE AROHA, Friday. The work at the course on Thursday was done under better conditions than usual, as the tracks were all the better for a couple of rainless days. Black Maire showed pace over the last bit of a mile run, and The Lamb, Queen Arch, Lady Mestor, Sir Russell and Bert Hinkler all executed steady work on the plough. Marble King scampered over a couple of furlongs after cantering a mile, and Grand Arch did long slow work. Belle Star and Wee Prince ran a, round together, the last couple of furlongs being at better than threequarter pace. William of Orange and Ah Wera showed improvement by running twice round solidly and finishing up strongly. The Glen Albyn filly, now furnishing satisfactorily, the sister to Woody Glen and Queen Arch and Lucky Alice were given useful tasks, and King Lap and King Win were associated in a run over three furlongs, both moving nicely. The steeplechaser Star of the East followed the hounds at the Waihou Hunt meet at Waihou on Wednesday. He should be in nice order for the Waikato Hunt Club meeting in October Mr. Alex. Swncy’s Volimond and Marble Arch filly are doing well in their preparations, while Taumai is improving. The latter may not be put into work again for a couple of months. The owner of the dam of Ah Wera and Taumai has been receiving inquiries as to whether the Foremost mare is for sale, and it is quite probable she may change hands shortly. Last season she was sent to the Catmint horse Delightment. J. Percival, who has been connected with a stable here lately, has now accepted a position with Trainer Young at Matamata. For Ellerslie It is expected that several Te Arolia horses will be nominated for the Pakuranga fixture. Tho condition of several is very solid, and local backers will doubtless be pleased if wins eventuate. Mr. A. J. Monds has his horse, Marble King, striding along resolutely in his work, both at the course and on the hill. He will doubtless be a Pakuranga contestant. Tho hunter, Every Day, is such a fine jumper, and possesses a share of pace that he might yet get on the winning list in the spring. Trainer G. A. Reid is keeping his team up to their work. Glenstar, Trig, Crown Arch, Arclieen, King Lap and Wee Prince are all progressing satisfactorily, but it would be somewhat difficult just now to select which will j be the stable’s first winner this season.
