Gaming House Keeper Fined The Wellington police today arrested Catherine Jones, aged 42. on a charge of using her shop in Moleswortli Street ns a common gaming bouse. Another Aero Club At a meeting under the auspices of the Wairarapa Progressive League, at which Major Isitt, Acting-Director of Aviation, spoke, it was decided to form an aero club in the Wairarapa. It ■will work in conjunction with the Wellington Club for the present. A provisional executive was set up and 17 intending members enrolled. Less Unemployment A further decrease in the number of unemployed in Auckland is shown by figures supplied by the Labour Department this morning, a total of 933^ men being registered, compared with 9 < 5 last week. Of this week’s total 742 are classed as fit for heavy work and 191 for light work only. The figures for the proceding week were 7*6 und 199. Dm mg the past week 155 men were placed in work, compared with 194 for the week ending July. 27. * * * Little Girl’s Death As a result of injuries received when knocked down by a motor-lorry at Okaiawa on Wednesday afternoon, Madeline Mack, the six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Mack, of the Okaiawa Hotel, died in the Hawera Hospital this morning. The child had been playing with a group of children on one side of the roadway, in the middle of the township, and ran out suddenly toward the middle of the road, and fell under the lorry, which is reported to have been moving slowly. Health Department Post The vacancy in the secretaryship of the Health Department caused by the recent, resignation of Mr. E. A. S. Ivillick, has been filled by the appointment of Mr. A. Von Keisenberg, of Wellington, who has been associated with the hospital administration since joining the Public Service in 190 S. He is at present secretary of the Hospital Boards' Association. In 1921 he was secretary to the Royal Commission on Hospitals. Girl Injured Knocked down by a car at St. Heliers at noon today, a little girl, Joan Cates, aged eight, suffered intern<il injuries and a fracture of the right arm. The accident happened after the girl had disembarked from a bus. The wheel of a passing motor-car passed over her abdomen and arm. The St. John Ambulance was summoned, and conveyed her to the Auckland Hospital at 12.45 p.m. The injured girl resides with her parents in Watling Street, St. Heliers Bay. The full extent .of her injuries is not yet known.
