TIME EXTENDED

TAKAPUNA UNEMPLOYMENT SUBSIDY

When in Wellington last week og power-board business, the DeputyMayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. W. Hayden, conferred with the Prime Minister concerning the time-limit placed upon the granting of a Government subsidy up to £6OO for the unemployment relief works at present in pro gress in Takapuna. • The difficulties confronting the borough council as the result of the departmental limitation of December 31 were discussed, the Prime Minister eventually agreeing to extend the limit to March 31. This decision clears away some of the council’s difficulties, but there still remains the non-proviskm for the relief of possible unemployment in the borough next winter. The question of finance concerning the relief works will be discussed at a special meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council on Wednesday evening.
