STURDY PIONEER

MRS. JOSEPH MARTIN 92ND BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED Celebrating her 92nd birthday today, Mrs. Joseph Martin, who lives with her son, the Rev. J. S. Martin, at the Methodist Parsonage, Church Street, Hevonport, has been 67 years in New Zealand. Mrs. Martin, born at Belfast, landed in Melbourne in 1854, and eight years later she went to Hunedin. Her father was Inspector Allworthy, of the Royal Irish Constabulary. In 1864 she married the late Mr. James Martin. She came to Auckland over 30 years ago, and has lived here since then. Mrs. Martin has six sons living, among whom are: The Rev. J. S. Martin, Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P., and Mr. Samuel Martin, grand senior warden of the New Zealand Masonic Lodge, Wellington. There are 34 grandchildren and five great-grand-children.
