MRS. G. STEWART The death is announced in Christchurch of Mrs. G. Stewart, piother of Mr. George G. Stewart, officer-in - charge of the Publicity Department of the New Zealand Railways. MR. W. H. BERN The death of Mr. William 11. Bern occurred at Hamilton today, at the ago of 71 years. In the early days Mr. Bern was a member of the Armed Constabulary, and later was in charge of the Hamilton East police station for many years. MR. W. B. CARMICHAEL Private advice received in Auckland states that Mr. W. B. Carmichael, principal of Carmichael and Company, Limited, of Sydney, died in Germany last week. Mr. Carmichael was well known in Auckland. In late years he had spent most of his time abroad owing to ill-health, and in order tr» obtain expert attention for his invalid son. MRS. ELIZABETH HAVILL * One of the earliest colonists in New Zealand. Mrs. Elizabeth Havill. died at her home in Sackville Street, Grey, Lynn, yesterday at the age of 91. Born in Hertfordshire. Mrs. Havill came to New Zealand 63 years ago on the ship Caduceus, travelling alone. The vessel arrived at Auckland in 1860 and she lived with some friends. Although she intended to stay in the country for about 20 years, she remained in New Zealand and married and settled down. Her husband ws n Mr. William Havill. who died 26 years I ago. Except for seven years in tho | Daxgaville district, all her married lil“ was spent in Auckland. Mrs. Havill is survived by a large number of descendants.
