Papakura Orphans’ Club

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION

The Papakura Orphans’ Club held its first ladies’ night of the session on Thursday, July 25. There was a record attendance which was presided over by the president, Bro. W. K. Francis.

The following clubs were represented:—Auckland, Bros. Howden, Beggs, Davy, White, Winthrop; Oneliunga, Bros. President R. Buchanan, Secretary C. A. Osborne, Past-Presi-dent E. V. Sutherland, Treasurer Bro. Kirk-Jones, Bro. Leri Bray, Bro. R. Speight, Bro. R. Uoldsworth, and Bro. Robertson; Otahuliu, President Bro. A. McDonald. Past-President and Secretary Bro. G. V. Pearce, Past-Presi-dent Bro. Jack Gillies, Bro. F. H. Leslie, Vice-President Bro. F. Pheasant. and Bro. L. C. Day; Pukekohe, Past-President Bro. O’Loughlin, VicePresident Max Grierson, Bro. Burrows; Hamilton, President Bro. Gilbert; Birkenhead and Northcote, Bro. D. M. Lawson (secretary); Tamaki, Bro. 11. Andrews and Bro. Scotting. Telegrams were received wishing the club a successful and enjoyable evening from Bro. J. D. Crawford, secretary Auckland Orphans’ Club; Bro. Powell, secretary Hamilton Orphans’ Club; Bro. Archibald, secretary Takapuna Orphans; President F. Hosking, Pukekohe Orphans’ Club; Past-Presi-dent C. K. Lawrie, Patron of Pukekohe Orphans’ Club. The president, Bro. W. K. Francis, announced that the chairman, for the next meeting of the club on August 8 would be Vice-President Bro. E. C. Foote, also that the club would pay an official visit to the Devonport Orphans’ Club on Saturday, August 3. BRIGHTS PROGRAM ME

The following artists contributed to a programme of a very high standard: Bro. Max Grierson, of the Pukekohe Orphans’ Club; Bro. Will Roberts, the fun doctor, Bro. Norman Tate, Bro. Rex Yates, Bro. Duncan Black, Bro. Lou Bickerton, Bro. Jim Lonnegan, Bro. V. Allen, Bro. Smithson. The Papakura Orphans’ Club Orchestra, under Bro. Philip Hardman, again delighted the huge audience with its orchestral numbers, its leading of the community singing being one of the features of the evening. Among those present were: Mrs. W. K. Francis, who wore a frock of black lace over crimson satin; Mrs. O’Loughlen, Pukekohe, in a frock of mauve satin beaute; Mrs. S. L. Anderson, whose chose apricot velvet, silver lace, rose on shoulder; Mrs. J. Burrows, Pukekohe, black ring velvet; Mrs. V . Rye, Otahuhu, in a rose ring velvet and diamente gown; Mrs. Scotting, St. Hehers Bay, wearing wine taffeta, with tiny frills, and fur wrap. Mrs. F. H. Leslie, Otahuhu, in beige rayon with sedge-green trimmings; Mrs. Appleby, wearing black satin, relieved with green; Mrs. Houldsworth, Onehunga, who chose a lame bodice and amethyst taffeta skirt; Mrs. Alf Walker, rose pink crepe de chine; Mrs. Len Bray, Onehunga, who wore navy crepe de chine; Mrs. F.
