NO HARVEST WORK
BRITISH MIGRANTS NOT NEEDED SHIP PASSAGES CANCELLED (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9 a.m. WINNIPEG, Thurs. Heavy British immigration, together with the short wheat crop, makes the bringing of harvester labour from Eastern Canada unnecessary. It is the first time in many years that this situation has been experienced. A London message says that officials of the Canadian Pacific Railway state that all passages booked for intending immigrants and harvesters by its steamers to Canada have been suspended owing to the unfavourable reports of the Canadian harvest. The “Daily Express” remarks that this last-minute cancellation of sailings has caused distress to hundreds of families. Harvesting trainees from South Wales are being advised to consider migration to Australia.
