MINERS’ PARLOUS FLIGHT
SAVED SROPLIVI PERISHING NATIONAUSATION CURE (Australian and NJ. Prcss Association) (United Service) Reed. 9 a.m. LONDON, Monday. I’residentially addressing the miners in the tense atmosphere of their Blackpool conference. Mr. Herbert Smith said the Federation was facing a serious position. Unemployment had increased; membership had declined. Charity had assisted in saving a whole section of the community from perishing from starvation. The mining population was entitled to look forward to something better til-.12: pauperisation. Reorganisation and national co-opel‘ation were essential for the salvation of the industry; but the national scheme was only a preliminary Canter toward national regulation. Only nationalisation of the mines, minerals and by-products would ultimately save the industry from FUII‘I.
The Federation was confidently an. ticiputing a reduction of working hours in the present year. The conference would have an opportunity to discuss privately and frankly the Prime Minister's reply last week to the deputation from the Federation.
