PAKURANGA HUNT

MEET AT PUHINUI The adverse weather. conditions which prevailed during the latter part of last week necessitated the alteration of the meeting place of the Pakuranga Hunt from Opaheke to Puhinui. The latter location consists of volcanic land, providing dry hunt-ing-ground. In spite of the unfavourable weather there was a good field present, and although rain was falling for practically all the time, a couple of very enjoyable runs were indulged in. The majority of obstacles encountered were, stone-walls, and the abundance of shelter enabled the quarries to find retreat. The field met at the entrance of the drive, and turned in by the Wiri Mountain, and worked toward McLaughlin’s Hill. It was not long before the pack had a hare afoot, which led the followers for a good chivvy over the rocks It eventually found shelter in a clump of fern. Two or three more hares were located. After some sharp scurries they were able to elude the pack, in the shelter which abounds, without leaving the Puhinui Estate. At the conclusion of the meet the followers were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. Wills McLaughlin at their homestead. Before departing, Mr. IT. BullockWebster. master of the hunt, thanked their host and hostess for allowing the hunt to be held on their property at such short notice. when other grounds were not available on account of the wet, and also for the afternoon tea provided.
