MONSTER FLYING-BOAT
* LEVIATHAN LEAPS FROM WATER IMPRESSIVE MANOEUVRES (Australian and- X.Z. Press Association) BERLIN, Saturday. The great new 12-engined Dornier flving-boat B.U.X. today passed her fli-st actual tests at Friedrichsharen. She rose from the water three times, the spectators being wild with delight. The 12 engines roared in terrific fashion, bringing people out of their homes. For two hours the machine dashed across the waier. turning and | twisting sharply. I Then the inventor. Herr Dornier, using a megaphone fzom a motorboat, instructed the pilot of the flyingboat to take the air. The engines were opened up and the gzeat machine literally leapt into the air. She rose easily to a height of 30ft. The engines were almost immediately throttled down and the machine dropped gracefully back to the water. The manoeuvre was carried out three times. It was found that the j flying-boat, the weight of which is 34 tons, was easily lifted while she was ; running on the water. Her speed in the tests was less than 60 miloe an | hour after the take-off. Her run -was les§ than 500yds.
