SANDHURST’S VICTORY RACING ON MELBOURNE COURSE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE, Sunday. The Victoria Racing Club’s Grand National meeting was concluded yesterday. The following were the results of the leading events:— GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE A handicap sweepstakes of £2O each, with £5,000 added; second £I,OOO, third £500; about 3 miles and a furlong. SANDHURST (J. McLeod and C. F. Taylor), ch g, 6yrs, by Baverstock —Lady Eaton, A. Fullerton . 1 MOSSTROOPER (G. Powell), ch g, aged, by Kenilworth —Keego, 9.5 2 SEAFIT (L. Duffant G. Alford), eh g, aged, by Sea Prince—Competence, Also started: Epergne, 11.3; Chaumont, 11.0; Johnny Cake, 10.13; Namera, 10.13; George William, 10.9; Glentronie, 30.9; Parupia 10.2; Wanda King, 10.1; Willanjie, 9.13; Derision, 9.11; Aiver, 9.9; Karachi, 9.5; Flavel Light, 9.3. The contestants dashed away well together at the start. Mosstrooper and Flavel Light, who were most prominent, led out of the straight. Sandhurst assumed charge at the first fence, and was never afterward headed. He soon had 12 lengths advantage from Flavel Light Parupa fell at the end of the first round. Sandhurst, who at one stage of the contest was 20 lengths ahead of the field, was only 10 in front passing the stand, followed by Mosstrooper, Willanjie, Seafit. The last-named joined Sandhurst two furlongs from home, but the latter drew away. Mosstrooper, however, came along with a good run and Sandhurst had to be bustled to win by a neck. Seafit was two lengths away with Willanjie fourth, a long way off. Time, 6.8.1 (a record for the race). DOUTTA GALLA HURDLES Of £1,000; 21 miles MAY DAY (.J. Won by a length and ahalf, two lengths between second and third. Time, 4.16.

ROYAL DUKE A WINNER

MOORF.FIELD RESULT (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, Sunday. At the Moorefield meeting yesterday, the New Zealand colt Royal Duke scored a win. The following are the details:— FLYING WELTER Of £200; 6 furlongs (Second Division) ROYAL DUKE (R. J. Murphy), b c, 3yrs, by Tea Tray—Persis, 9.3 .. 1 NOLENS VOLEXS, 8.12 2 QUINCE, 9.5 3 Eleven started. In an exciting finish Royal Duke won by half a head, a similar margin between second and third. Time, 1.161.
