STILL NOT PARTED

HUSBAND FOLLOWS WIFE TO GRAVE AGED COUPLE’S DEATHS A pathetic case of husband and wife dying within 48 hours of each other has occurred at Devonport, where Mrs. Elizabeth Ryan, a resident of the district for many years, died at her home in Hastings Parade on Friday, after a long illness, the death of her husband, Mr. George Ryan, occurring yesterday. Mrs. Ryan was 72 years of age and her husband 74. TpHE failing health of the old couple had caused neighbours and friends some concern. Despite suffering considerably with heart trouble, Mr. Ryan devoted himself to nursing his wife, who for the past three years had been blind. During the past month the couple had been confined to their beds and the health of both gradually faded. Mrs. Ryan was buried at O’Neill’s Point Cemetery on and Mr. Ryan was buried in the same grave today. Born at Hackney, London, Mrs. Ryan was married 49 years ago and she and her husband came to New Zealand about 40 years ago, and for the latter half of that period had lived at Devonport. The only relative in New Zealand is a niece who lives at St. Heliers Bay.
