HOSPITAL AUXILIARY
STREET COLLECTION SHOWS MARKED DROP Not unexpected by the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary its street collection yesterday fell far short of last year’s effort. The Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, who organised the collection, said the amount given on the streets would total about £450. Last year the collection was about double that. However, donations, including £BO raised at bridge evenings and a similar amount collected through the art union conducted at the Winter Show, would bring the total proceeds o£ the appeal to approximately £6OO. Mrs. Campbell said the wonderful liberality of citizens toward the relief of earthquake sufferers would naturally affect the response to other concurrent appeals. Having to make the best of less money, the auxiliary would be obliged to curtail its activities during the next 12 months. That meant the distribution of clothing and comforts to necessitous hospital patients would not be possible on the same scale as last year. ONEHUNGA’S RESPONSE The street collection in Onehunga yesterday in aid of the hospital funds produced £39 7s lOd.
