CARING FOR EX-SOLDIERS

DECISIONS OF COUNCIL Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. The War Funds Council met at Parliament House yesterday. A resolution of appreciation of the Hon. W. D. Stewart’s services as Minister-in-Charge of War Funds and for the interest displayed by him in patriotic matters was carried unanimously. It was decided that a further sum of £5,000 be authorised to assist in the relief of unemployed soldiers during the forthcoming year. A resolution was passed recommending the Government to accord further assistance to South African veterans. Pleasure was expressed that at this date bequests made for the benefit of ex-soldiers showed that their services were still remembered. The disposal of the remaining portion of the Methodist war fund was finalised. The moneys will be used in the assistance of padres in accordance with tlie original purpose. The accumulated fund of the trust stands at £162,183 IDs 7d, in addition to which there are trust funds of £6,991 15s 9d.
