At the fortnightly meeting of the Manunui Town Board a letter was received from Mr. L. Fisher, complaining of damage done to lais residence by tho workmen during wiring for electricity, and Intimating that he would hold the board responsible. Tho chairman, Mr. F. M. Carroll, said that numerous complaints in this connection had been received, and the board resolved to notify the contractor of the seriousness of the position and of the fact that the board would accept no liability. It was also resolved to notify Mr. Fisher that the board was not responsible. * * * A special meeting of the Taumarunui Borough Council was held to consider the position arising from the resignation of the borough foreman, Mr. A. Cliff, this action having been rendered necessary owing to a recent accident. . , _ Tho Mayor, Mr. C. A. Boles, advised that 'two other applications for the position had been received, and tho chairman of the works committee, Cr. A. T. Driftil, moved that Mr. W. J. Bowden, of Mount Albert, be appointed subject to a personal interview before the appointment is confirmed. This course was agreed to, an amendment that a local applicant be appointed being: lost.^ The Taumarunui Borough Council relief fund for the earthquake sufferers now totals £132 16s. A fund recently opened by the Kaitieke County Council with a donation of £2O stands at £24 2s. # „ At its monthly meeting the Kaitieke County Council resolved that the chairman’s honorarium be fixed at £75 for the year. It was decided to support the Taumarunui Hospital Board’s proposal for the erection of an isolation block at the hospital at a cost of. £4,500. A sum of £2 10s was voted to reimburse the Taumarunui Borough poundkeeper for loss incurred in impounding stock from on county roads. On a motion ot Cr. -D. Treacy it was resolved to re-fence a dangerous precipice on the Upper Retaruke Road with a ten-wire fence in tho interests of pubhc safety. A public-spirited action was carried out bv a number of Kaitieke settlers this week, when a working "bee euusistins of Messrs. Morris, Edwards, Karam, Pritchard, Schofield, JChadwlck N Schofield, Wilson, J. Dobbs, iun ,' and Joblin. met to lay out a tennis-court on the Maungaroa Road School grounds. The work was rendered difficult by the necessity for shifting the play-shed to a new position. but this was successfully cai-rh-d out under the direction of t, • Schofield and Karam. The completion of the new court will be oi ‘Teat social benefit to both the school and the district.
