“Will be Finest Football Ground South of the Line”
THE big grandstand at AtliJetie Park, Wellington, has nowbeen completed for a fortnight or more, and is occupied each Saturday by a large crowd of Rugby enthusiasts. At this week’s meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union it was decided to obtain an engineer’s estimate of the eost to complete the western bank at both north and south ends, and also to remodel the different entrances and bring them up to date, so as to be able to handle large crowds expeditiously. When the matter w-as under discussion, the chairman, Mr. J. Prendeville, stated that the club gates this season bad already realised £2,884, more than equal to the amount received for the whole of last season, and there are still five playing Saturdays to go in club games. When the western bank is completed it is considered that Athletic Park wall be the finest football ground south of the Line so far as accommodation is concerned.
