CARRIED 70 FEET
GIRL STRUCK BY MOTOR DRIVER PAYS FINE The sequel to a motor accident which occurred In Symonds Street a month ago, when a girl was struck by a car and carried 70 feet, was heard at the Police Court this morning. G. W. Day was charged with dangerous driving. Mr. Kells Mason appeared for accused and entered a plea of not guilty. According to Sub-Inspector McCarthy, the accident had occurred at 6.30 in the evening near the East Street intersection. The girl was stepping off the pavement to catch a tram when defendant, who was trying to beat tbe tram, struck her and carried her 70 feet. After witnesses had been called, Mr. Kells Mason changed his plea to guilty. Counsel mentioned that it was a wet night and that Day did not see the girl. He considered that to say the girl had been carried 70 feet was an exaggeration. He also stressed the possibility of there being a compensation case as a further result of the accident. Day w-as fined £2 and ordered to pay £3 2s costs.
