RANGITOTO ISLAND
ENGLISH EXPERT URGES PRESERVATION That Kangitoto Island should he preserved in its natural state 'is the tenor of a letter received from Dr. Arthur Hill, director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London, by the Auckland Town Planning Association. The letter was written In answer to one sent to him by the association which enclosed the pamphlet ‘'Auckland's Unique Heritage.” Dr. Hill writes:
“I have looked at your publication with interest and especially looked to see what you had to say about Rangitoto, which I consider to be quite the most interesting of your many volcanic hills. I very much hope that you will be able to preserve this remarkable island from destruction, either in the way of quarrying destruction or undergrowth or roadmakiug, as this unique spot should certainly be kept as far as possible in its natural condition.”
