PAKURANGA HUNT
MEET AT KELVIN GROVE KILLS AFTER GOOD RUNS There was a large attendance of members and local residents at the meet of the Pakuranga Hunt held at the homestead of Mr. and Mrs. James Walker, Kelvin Grove, Pupakura, yesterday. A sumptuous hunt breakfast awaited the followers and subsequently the pack moved on to Mr. Hatrick’s farm, where it worked through Messrs. Little’s and Lynch’s properties. A strong hare was raised, which led the field for a merry chase. Crossing the Clevedon Road, it ran through a number of sections at the back of Papakura township, where it turned and followed the same scent straight back through the same country. It crossed Messrs. Croskery's and Hatrick’s farms, and through Mr. Walker’s, where it crossed a stream and led the way through Mr. Whitford’s into Mr. Binglev’s property. Here it turned and travelled up to the hills, where it was successfully headed and killed on Mr. Dreadon's farm. The pack was then thrown o ft in Mr. Pethybridge’s farm and worked through Messrs. Dreadon’s and Bingley’s farms. Some time was spent in a swamp, and along a belt of bush, but without success. Crossing the road into Mr. Kinloek’s, a strong quarry was put up, which le<i the field for an exceedingly fast run across the properties of Messrs. Walker. Hatrick and Whitford. Crossing the road it reached Mr. Bingley’s farm, where a kill was registered on the edge of a creek.
The pack then worked back through Mr. Hatrick’s, on to Mr. Walker’s, where afternoon tea was served. Mr. H. Bullock Webster, master of the hunt, expressed his pleasure at seeing so many of the local riders following the pack, and extended the thanks of the members to the farmers of the district, who allowed the hunt to be held on their properties, and also to Mr. and Mrs. Walker for their splendid hospitality in entertaining the large field of followers. Commander Bingley also spoke in appreciation of his neighbours’ hospitality, in opening up their land for the hunt, providing ideal hunting ground with an abundance of sport and good variety of obstacles.
