MAU MEN FIGHT POLICE

MANY INJURED IN APIA BATTLE CHIEF TAGALOA ARRESTED (Australian and N.Z. Picss Association) APIA, Saturday. Six civil policemen, who were arresting a member of the Mau this morning in the main street at Apia, were attacked by Mau men armed with heavy batons. The police were reinforced and a general fight followed. Three policemen were injured and required medical attention. Others sustained minor injuries. Fifteen members of the Mau were injured by the batons of the police. The arrest of the chief Tagaloa was finally effected. The present leader of the Mau, Faumuina, unsuccessfully endeavoured to restrain the Mau men. Later he addressed a gathering in front of of the post office and advised them to await developments.
