KING GEORGE’S STAMPS
It is well known that the King is an enthusiastic stamp collector. He vas president of the Royal Philatelic Society, of which the Prince of Wales w now honorary president and Mr. J. *• Hall the chairman. During the tune the King was president he often tco*j the chair himself and contributed papers on his favourite hobby. Ta,s was before his accession to the throne. The members of the society, whicii has just celebrated its diamond jTD' lee, include every philatelist of not in the world. It is said that if dj* collectors in its membership would ex* hibit their stamps, not a rarity in tn world would be absent. Single stamp® have been known to fetch a price as much as £7,000. One c ° lector in the society has an bearing two of the famous blue M* ritius stamps worth more tn £IO,OOO, although they were issued a. twopence. The King specialises Empire stamps, and his collection said to be the finest in the world.
