A supposition is that Miss Lynch returned to her room just before her fall with an intention of saving her effects from destruction by fire. During her ISI years’ service as head waitress at the Grand Hotel and Hotel Cargen. Miss Lynch had accumulated her savings. Part of the money had been deposited in a bank in Brisbane and had recently been transferred to Auckland, where Miss Lynch had intended to reinvest the amount. There was a cheque for over £2.000 issued from a bank in Brisbane in Miss Lynch’s room, and about £IOO in currency notes. Several hundred people attended the service in memory of Miss Lynch in St. Patrick's Cathedral. Mr. Eliot Davis was present, representing the owners of Cargen, Mr. G. Lund, the hotel manager, and Mr. G. H. Bassant. manager of the Grand Hotel. From people in all parts of New Zealand and from Australia. there were wreaths and messages of sj’mpathy. The pallbearers were members of the male staffs of both hotels, and the funeral was at Hillsborough Cemetery. Dr. L. T. Buxton, assisted by Father von Rotter, conducted the service.
