JAP. STEAMER STRANDED
PASSENGERS CRITICAL OF CREW’S CONDUCT SUFFERED FROM EXPOSURE (United Service) TOKIO, Friday. A message from Kobe says the Baikal Maru, from Dairen, was stranded on an islet off South Korea on Tuesday: She was at first reported to be a total loss, but has now been towed off, and possibly she can be repaired. Her 400 passengers, who were landed on the islet, suffered from exposure. Some of them who have arrived in Japan are complaining bitterly of the conduct of the crew. They charge them with indifference to the passengers’ lives and comfort. The Baikal Maru is a vessel of 5,243 tons, built in 1921 at Kobe, and owned by the Osaka Shosen Company of Osaka.
