MT. WELLINGTON ROAD BOARD

The Mount Wellington Road Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. G. Kay. presiding. The Main Highways Board advised that it had no objection to the erection by the Westfield Freezing Company of mechanical warning devices at the private railway crossing on the Great South Road. It was resolved to insist that any device erected should not relieve the company of the maintenance of a man on the crossing in the terms of the tramway licence. It was decided to erect ten additional street lamps. Lhe Transport Advisory Council wrote asking whether the Road Board desired to install standard road signs, as if sufficient local bodies were willing to install them tenders could be called for the whole quantity at a saving in cost. It was considered that metal signs would be preferable, as having longer life. The board decided to so into the question of securing any new ones required.
