OLD THAMES GIRLS
RELIEF OF THE NEEDY With the object of helping those in need, each member and visitor at a meeting of the Old Thames Girls’ Association in the Pitt Street Methodist Hall yesterday afternoon, brought one now garment. Later these were given 10 the social workers in the city. The helping of those in need is one of the chief objects of the association, and any old Thames people in distress are given preference. Referring to the association as one in which the members were banded together to help one another morally, Spiritually, and with regard to the material things of life, the Rev. G. R. Goats said it was one of the most useful and praiseworthy gatherings of women he had attended. Sister Esther and Major Gordon also spoke and gave instances of the urgent r.eed for charitable relief at the present time. Changes at Thames and the conditions at the mines were described by Mr. F. Weston, who had recently made a brief visit there. During the afternoon songs were given by Mrs. Nello Porter and Miss Reed. Violin solos were played by Miss Ida Lockwood and the accompanist was Mies Joyce Porter.
