MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
Xotice was given by Mr. G. Gallaher, chairman, at last evening’s meeting of the Manurewa Town Board, of his intention to move that the general rate for the present year be 2id in the £ on the capital value of all ratable property in the town district. This is an increase of 1-Sd in the £ on last year’s rates.
The clerk reported that the new valuation roll is practically completed. In view of the completion of the Arapuni scheme it was agreed to apply to the Auckland Power Board for a reduction in the cost of street lighting. The clerk was authorised to forward a schedule of the number of lights in the district, and the annual cost to the board. This application is the result of a previous promise made by the Power Board of a reduction in the cost of power on the completion of Arapuni. The Manurewa Football Club forwarded a letter stating that on account of their financial position, they could not grant a payment of £ 5 toward the cost of maintainance of Jellicoe Park. Their offer of 25 per cent, of the gate receipts was accepted by the board.
