LURE OF DOORWAYS
THIEF WITH LONG LIST GAOLED THEFTS FROM SHOPS The sight of goods hung outside a shop doorway and out of sight of the salesmen inside was too much for Thomas Angus last week when he disappeared down the street with a pair of boots and two suits. Angus, a hotel worker, aged 52, pleaded guilty at the Police Court yesterday to stealing a pair of boots valued at 18s from a city store and two suits of a total value of £3 from Septimus Meltzer. According to Chief-Detective Hammond, the thefts had been committed from shop doorways. “Angus has been stealing for a long time,” he said. “He has a good long list. He sold the boots to a dealer and drank the money.”
“I remember him. He was here last year,” commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., and sentenced Angus to six months’ imprisonment on the second charge. A conviction only was entered on the first charge.
