BOXING TITLES GRABBED
BRITAIN SENDS PROTEST TO AMERICA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday. “Boxing-title grabbing” is how “Sporting Life” describes the New York State Athletic Commission’s decision to match the Panama negro A 1 Brown and the Spaniard Vidal Gregorio for tile world bantam championship, about which the British Board of Boxing Control sent an emphatic protest, pointing out that if it proceeded with the bout it will create a serious position. “It is not surprising,” says “Sporting Life,” “that America never recognised Teddy Baldock as the world’s bantam champion. She must have a champion of her own making, whether he be white, black, brown, or yellow.” The paper declares that America at present claims all the world’s championships except the feather-weight, which is held by the Frenchman Andre Routis. It adds: “Only by an all-nations boxing agreement will It be possible to establish an undisputed world’s champion in each weight.”
