PLAZA

“THE SINGING FOOL” The appearance of the A 1 Jolson “Talkie” picture is an event in the film world, so firmly has he established himself in the hearts of Auckland theatregoers. The world’s favourite

entertainer, a title he earned on the stage, now applies equally to his screen appearances. "The Singing Fool,” in which Warner Brothers present the famous comedian, is a sound picture with dialogue and

singing sequences and has attracted crowded houses to three sessions each day at the Plaza Theatre. The spectacular picture tells a story of the joys and heartaches of the people of the cabarets, introducing Jolson as proprietor and master of ceremonies of a hectic New York Night Club. The film reveals a new Al Jolson—an artist who has become as much the master of the “talkies” as though it had always been his chosen medium —an actor who carries himself with the poise of a veteran. “The Singing Fool” is a sensation. Dorothy Cumming, another British star from Hollywood, was born in Australia. She will be seen shortly in New Zealand in the British International picture “Kitty,” the companion picture of “Sorrell and Son.”
