Influenza lias made its appearance in a mild form in this district, and in several localities its incidence is very widespread. The present spell of cold wet weather is assisting the malady.
The Taumarunui County Council is aDDlving to the Valuation Department fo. a revaluation of the Waimiha, Taringamotu, and Punga Punga ridings. .
For a trophy presented by Mrs. Spicer, the Manunui Pigeon Club flew a. race from Paekakariki, which resulted: D. Wilsons Oratnx, 626.9 yaids ~ minute 1 o Andrews’s Rednite, 625 9 £mds. 2: J. Whittaker’s Gold Money 622.6 yards. 3. Laird, of Taumarunui, was supervising architect.
The president, Mr. G. S. Steadman, was in the chair at the annual meeting" and reunion of the Taumarunui and District Pioneers’ Association. The following officers were elected: Patron. Mr. Alexander Bell; president, Mr, A. G Riches: vice-presidents, Messrs, c. J. Ryan. L. Fisher, G. F. Thompson. F. T Brown, A. E. Bice, and F. Logan, executive committee. Messrs. A. J. Langmuir. F. O Connor, Peek, J. Slutterjl B- a! Beattie, E. Dunn, Gunning; hon.' secretary, Mr. A. Venn.
In a letter to the Taumarunui County Council, replying to a suggestion re- .» rding tlie purchase of the bridges erected by Messrs. Ellis and Burnand sawmillers, in the Taringamotu and Maungakahu districts, the Works engineer at Taumarunui, Mr. G. W VlbreLon, states that both roads concerned will sooner or later be required on account of the settlement along botli routes, but in view of the uncertainty of when the company will be finished with the tramline, he did not feel inclined to recommend a Gov - ernment grant for what appeared to be a very doubtful asset. Mr. Albretson venmred that all the bridges recommended for purchase could be re new-ed for a sum -of £5,000*
