BURGLAR DISTURBED
DARING ESCAPADE YIELDS POOR RETURN SPORTS DEPOT ENTERED The thief who broke into the premises of Martin and Philson, sports dealers, Vaile’s Buildings, Queen Street, on Monday evening, had a poof return for the expenditure of his energies. When he rifled the cash-box, he collected about £1 in small change, ■VTERY little cash is usually left in ’ the box under the counter of the shop, which is on the first floor, and the burglar showed considerable daring in entering the building before 11 o'clock in the evening. The door of the shop was shut at 6, but when the caretaker made his rounds at about 11 he discovered the door ajar, and that the cash-box had been broken open. It is thought that the burglar made his entrance through a swinging fanlight above the door. Evidently he was disturbed in his work, for he left about Is in small change in the box. No athletic gear, of. which there was a considerable quantity, was taken.
