W. 11. Prentis is the conM trolling force in the firm of Richard Arthur and Co., grain, seed and produce merchants, of Fort Street.

Mr. Prentis is practically the ‘'father” of the Auckland grain and produce oner chants. He is known to men in the trade in all parts of the Dominion. Born in Kent (England), Mr. Prentis came to New Zealand in 190 S, and has been actively connected with the grain, seed and produce trade throughout the ■whole of the ensuing period. lie has been one of the most active workers in organising and tightening up the regulations controlling the business throughout the Dominion, and teas one of the foundation members of the Auckland Grain. Seed and Produce Merchant s' Association. He held the position of chairman of that body for two terms. He has also occupied the presidential chair of the North Island Association at various periods. At the moment, he is on the executive council of the New Zealand Federation. ’ One of the leaders of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association, he has played an active part in building the association up to its present strength, holding the position of chairman for tico terms. Few men arc better known in commercial circles than Mr. Prentis.
