ONEHUNGA ORPHANS

1929 SESSION OPENED Fraternal greetings from many kindred clubs as far South as Christchurch signalised the inauguration of the ninth session of the Onehung* Orphans’ Club on Saturday evening The president. Bro. Robert Buchanan, paid a tribute to the memory of the late Bro. T. Loasby, an ex vic?president and life member of the club, whe had died during the club’s reces« and members in silence paid him their token of respect. Among the visitors Mere Bro. j. p Crawford. president of the Associated Club of New Zealand; Bros. C. Mountain and W. Packman, of the Auckland Orphans’ Club. Bros. A. McDonald and G. Pearce, president and secretary respectively of the Otahuhu Club; Bro. Captain Lacey and Bro. A. Frear of Devonport; Bros. Day and Stewart. Pukekohe; Bros. Francis and Anderson, Papakura; Bros. R. Glover-Clark and Gilbert Scott, of Tamaki: Bro. W Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, and Bro. Captain Sargeant. Bros. Francis, McDonald and Clark responded to the toast of the Visitor* and the orchestra, under the condurtorship of Bro. J. Lighton, contributed many enjoyable items. The president congratulated Bro. Edward Morton, a vice-president of th e club, on his election to the Mayoralty of Onehunga and to Bros. A. C. Tonkin and S. Vella on their election to the Borough Council. A good programme of vocal, instrumental and humorous items was given by the New Zealand Quartet (Bro.-. Duncan Black. J. Simpson, R. Dormer and E. Mannall). J. McLennan, and “The Two C's.” Bro. Lcn Elliott acted as accompanist.
