“EMBASSY LIQUOR”
PRIVILEGE OF DIPLOMATS IN AMERICA SIR ESME HOWARD’S LEAD (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) NEW YORK, Saturday. The British Ambassador, Sir Esme Howard, told journalists in New York today that he is willing to surrender the privilege of “diplomatic liquor.” If the United States Government intimated a desire to cancel that privilege he would be glad to co-operate with other members of the Diplomatic Corps in carrying out that desire. The Washington correspondent of the United Press says it has learned on the highest authority that there is no disposition on the part of the United States Government to ask the foreign diplomats to forgo their special liquor privileges in their residences and the chancellories.
